FAQ
Quick answers about matching, ETM Connect (Epic/MyChart), privacy, and how to get the most accurate results.
Basics
What EqualTrialMatch does, and what it doesn’t.
What is EqualTrialMatch?
EqualTrialMatch helps you discover and organize clinical trial options using a futuristic, privacy‑minded workflow:
- Search trials from public registries (for example, ClinicalTrials.gov).
- Set preferences (ZIP, radius, age, status) to narrow results.
- Save trials you want to revisit.
- Optionally connect Epic MyChart to import a small health snapshot (conditions, medications, allergies, procedures) to improve matching signals.
Is EqualTrialMatch medical advice?
No. EqualTrialMatch is an informational tool that helps you find and organize trial listings. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace a clinician’s judgment.
If you have questions about whether a trial is appropriate for you, talk with your care team.
Can EqualTrialMatch enroll me in a trial?
No. EqualTrialMatch helps you discover trials and understand the public listing. Trial enrollment is handled by the study team.
When you contact a study team, you control what information you share and how you proceed.
Where do trial listings come from?
Trial listings are sourced from public registries. Many listings you see will include a link back to ClinicalTrials.gov for the canonical entry.
Note: Registries can lag real-world updates. Always confirm details with the study team and the registry posting.
What do statuses like “Recruiting” or “Not yet recruiting” mean?
These statuses come from the registry listing. They’re useful filters, but they are not always up to date.
If a study looks promising, click through to the registry and/or contact the study site to confirm they are actively screening.
TrialMatch+ and results
How matching works, what it means, and what to expect.
What is TrialMatch+?
TrialMatch+ is a matching assist that prioritizes trials based on your preferences and (optionally) your imported health snapshot. It’s designed to improve signal-to-noise and reduce manual reading.
It does not guarantee eligibility or enrollment. Final eligibility is determined by the study team using full inclusion/exclusion criteria.
Why do my results change over time?
Results can change for a few normal reasons:
- Registries update study status, locations, or eligibility text.
- You updated preferences (ZIP/radius/age/status).
- You added health data (conditions/medications/allergies/procedures).
Why do I see trials that don’t look relevant?
Trial eligibility criteria are often complex and sometimes unstructured. Even strong matching can produce false positives.
Use filters and TrialMatch+ readiness steps (health data + preferences) to tighten the results, then confirm eligibility by reading the full criteria and contacting the study team.
What are “Saved trials”?
Saved trials are bookmarks stored in your profile so you can quickly revisit studies you’re considering.
Saving a trial does not notify a study team.
Do study teams see my profile or activity?
EqualTrialMatch is designed so your internal activity (searching, saving, building your profile) is not automatically shared with study teams.
If you choose to contact a study team, you decide what information to disclose.
ETM Connect (Epic / MyChart)
What it is, what’s imported, and how it’s protected.
How does Epic / MyChart connection work?
ETM Connect uses Epic’s secure OAuth + FHIR APIs. You authenticate on Epic’s pages and grant consent to import specific health data types.
EqualTrialMatch does not collect your MyChart password.
What health data is imported from MyChart?
With your consent, EqualTrialMatch can import a limited health snapshot, such as:
- Conditions / diagnoses
- Allergies
- Medications
- Procedures / surgeries (when available)
This snapshot is used to improve matching and eligibility checks, not to replace clinical care.
Can I disconnect Epic later?
Yes. You can disconnect from your Profile. If you disconnect, matching will fall back to your preferences and manual inputs.
Why should I connect MyChart at all?
Connecting MyChart can improve match accuracy by reducing manual data entry and adding more precise clinical context (for example, medication classes or past procedures).
It’s optional. You can still use EqualTrialMatch without connecting.
What if my health system isn’t supported?
If ETM Connect isn’t available for your system, you can still use preferences and manual health snapshot entry to improve matching.
If you want to request support for a specific system, contact us via Contact.
Privacy, safety, and troubleshooting
Security posture, limitations, and common issues.
What does “privacy-minded” mean here?
We design the experience so you can search, save, and build a profile without automatically broadcasting that activity to study teams.
When third‑party connections exist (like Epic), authentication happens on their secure pages and you explicitly consent to what’s imported.
I can’t sign in (CredentialsSignin). What does that mean?
This typically means the email/password combination is incorrect. Re-check spelling, capitalization, and whether you created the account under a different email.
If you’re still stuck, use Contact and we’ll help you troubleshoot.
How accurate is the data on EqualTrialMatch?
We surface and normalize public registry listings, but the registry entry is the source of record and study teams have the final say on what’s actively open.
Always confirm key details (status, locations, eligibility) with the listing and the study site.
Why do you ask for ZIP and radius?
Many trials are location-specific. ZIP and radius help prioritize sites that are more practical for you to reach.
You can change these preferences at any time.
Where can I read more about transparency and limitations?
Start with our Disclosure page. It explains data sources, limitations, and how we think about ranking and third parties.
Still stuck?
If something looks wrong (a listing, a status, a login issue), send us a note and we’ll help.
